Mark Knowlton (Director) KPS Ltd

During his career Mark has held a number of senior and Director level positions in Manufacturing & Business Services sectors. As Plant Manager of a Kent based firm he lead a team of 180 people, grew the turnover to £19m and reduced operational costs significantly through the implementation of the Lean principles. He has also managed a number of pan European production transfer and product rationalisation projects for one of the ‘Fortune 500’ American Corporations.


Mark completed the University of Michigan’s ‘Lean Manufacturing Programme’ in 2001 and attained an MBA in 2005. He established the Lean consulting business KPS Ltd in 2006 and is the founder of LeanBenchmark™ a web based benchmarking service with over 200 registered users.

More recently, he has been instrumental in developing the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) Best Practice Network across the South East.

Recognising that knowledge transfer through coaching of local Lean champions is vital, he has successfully designed and implemented Lean Manufacturing and Lean Office programmes for numerous Manufacturers and service based organisations including a number of NHS hospital trusts.

In addition to his day to day business activity, Mark has lectured at the University of Kent Business School (MSc in Operations Management). He is also a member nominated Pension Scheme Trustee for Steelcase, an active Rotarian and a Business Mentor for the Princes Trust.

Daniel Knowlton (Marketing Specialist) KPS Ltd

Since gaining a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in Business Management and Marketing at Brighton University, Daniel developed his skills further in a Graduate Management Programme at Enterprise rent-a-car. Regularly recognised as one of the top sales generators from over 700 staff, he accelerated up the Enterprise ranks to Assistant Manager of one of the biggest branches in the area. Managing a fleet of 200+ cars and 9 staff really helped develop Daniel’s leadership skills whilst giving him the opportunity to learn how to run a real business.

111222He has developed a strong passion for    online marketing and   social media and  discovered that some small businesses are missing out on opportunities to generate new business through this channel.

Daniel has successfully rolled out the Digital Marketing strategy for KPS and developed a proven Digital Marketing Framework enabling other businesses to build an effective online presence.

In addition, Daniel has been involved in the Manufacturing Advisor Services GROW:Offshorewind programme. He has played a key role in a number of business workshops and Supply chain conferences; interviewing delegates and stakeholders to support Case Studies he has written as part of a comprehensive post event PR  campaign.

Besides his business activity, Daniel is a keen Skier, Squash player and has an interest in Cars and Scuba Diving.

Dr. John Coleman (Associate) KPS Ltd


A background built on experience in petro-chemical, healthcare, engineering and manufacturing sectors. Within these sectors John’s organisational roles were at board level, general management coupled with operations and sales management.

John’s focus for clients is developing teams with practical, applicable skills in continuous improvement and other techniques that fit the unique needs of the management and staff of the organisation.

John’s activity for clients is output based: generating a defined and agreed return on any current project;111 and a trained workforce for self reliance in future programmes.

Bernard Pope (Associate) KPS Ltd


Bernard is a Finance Director with a difference. Having cut his (non-finance) teeth managing sales and customer service teams, he knows how to pitch for business, interact with customers and manage teams from two to a hundred people.

He has also helped entrepreneurs start virtually from scratch, whether buying into an existing business or breaking out of an attic to professional offices in the UK and around the world.


With a flexible and dynamic approach, Bernard is quickly able to tune in to an organisation’s culture, and apply his collaborative ethos across business   sectors and environments.

He has created and developed finance teams, implemented new systems, and taught finance for non-financial managers in companies with sales from £1m to £100m.  He has also managed HR functions, developing coaching skills, leadership programs and culture change. He is a firm believer in continuous improvement, having led organisations (both in the private and public sector) through improvement programs, employing a range of skill sets including Lean, Six Sigma and Psychometric Profiling.

Passionate about keeping your axe sharp, he strives to get results working with the three key elements:


Outside of business Bernard is a mentor for the Young Enterprise programme, plays in a band and enjoys scuba diving.

Tarrina Miller (Associate) KPS Ltd


Over 15 year’s experience in working with Blue Chip companies and SME’s facing diverse business challenges (including managing growth and optimizing profit margins). Responsible for establishing and nurturing relationships with Managing Directors, Board members and Senior Management teams.

Excellent communication and inter-personal relationship skills enabling issues and priorities to be quickly established and the subsequent formulation of time bound action and improvement plans to developed. These include the required metrics to measure success coupled with the communication and change management aspects required to balance the intervention and deliver the overall required results. 111


Significant experience in holding Non Executive Director positions with companies. A track record of supporting growth including a £3.5M increase in turnover over a 3 year period (62% growth).


Paul Allen (Associate) KPS Ltd


Paul is a Six Sigma and Lean consultant with 12 years Six Sigma experience. He has worked in a multitude of industries including steel, electronics, food, Pharmaceutical etc. and specialises in making Six Sigma accessible to small and medium sized companies up to 500 employees who find the big corporate 6 Sigma approach impractical for them.
